The Lighthouse Development Group has just announced that it has submitted its complete response to the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement (DGEIS). We discussed in the past that the Town of Hempstead and the Lighthouse have been negotiating this document, with the Town of Hempstead submitting almost 200 requests for change (of which, 19 were deemed actionable).
According to a timeline provided by the Lighthouse, the Town of Hempstead submitted its complete set of comments on the DGEIS on April 17, and the full response was submitted today, a span of only 11 days.
The next step, as per the SEQR process, is for the Town of Hempstead to declare the DGEIS complete and accurate, and to schedule public hearings. Hopefully we will hear this news soon, and the public hearings will be held sometime in early to mid-May.
Exhale just a bit, friends. The road ahead of us will be long, but this is a step in the right direction. I will be in contact with sources at both the Lighthouse and Town of Hempstead in an attempt to nail down the dates.

Very intriguing item on Logan's blog. I'm going against my own grain and am going to contact the senator's office to see if I can find out more about his intent and his interest in the LH issue.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I am misreading, but it sounds like this step was one completed by the Lighthouse Group. Is there anything here that gives us any glimmer of hope regarding the TOHs stance? I understand it's progress, but is there anything here that should make us feel better regarding Murray's apparent opposition to the project? I'm not challenging your point, I really just don't fully grasp the ins-and-outs of the process.
ReplyDelete360 - post coming later today that answers your question.
ReplyDeletewhat are the chances this was just a step forward for the TOH to continue to hold up the process by submitting unreasonable requests on the development group with no leagal deadlines?
