Town of Hempstead Establishes Lighthouse Contact Address

Now that we have entered the 45-day public comment period, the Town of Hempstead has taken steps to make sure that those who cannot make the hearings can still have their voices heard.

You can direct all Lighthouse-related comments to lighthousecomment@tohmail.org (not .com as previously reported - thanks to Jason).

Naturally, you do not need to be a Town of Hempstead resident to send these comments, and it could indeed help to show how many people all over the world care about what we do here. Please do not flame the Town or rely on insults; this site and many others have proven that we can effectively advocate for the Lighthouse using indisputable facts.

I will be back in the coming days with issues and points that can help guide comments, and in the meantime feel free to email me with any questions, or if you'd like a quick proofread of your comment before sending it.

Stay tuned in the coming days for a roundup of Lighthouse-related facts and a series on Lighthouse transportation options.

Please share your thoughts in comments. Petition. Email Me. Follow me on Twitter.

  1. I just read your comments and I can't believe you wrote, "we must be thorough and diligent in reviewing and considering this proposal". Are you kidding me?? How long has this been going on? What do you consider thorough? Enough is enough, this project is what Nassau County has needed for quite awhile. Everyone is finding the taxes unbearable, the utilities unbearable and you are stalling on this for years now!!!!!! What is wrong with this county? Other places are willing to take our team from us without any hassle but we keep putting it off. Don't tell me you want to be thorough because it's become the joke of Long Island now. GET IT DONE!!!!!!!! My husband retired and we find it very difficult to stay here. We will probably have to move after living here my whole life. How many others are going to put for sale signs up before the county decides to stop being so thorough???? I'm so disgusted right now that this letter just made me totally nuts. STOP stalling and start DOING! Not only for the New York Islanders, but for the people!

  2. I believe we should be extremely careful about what we ask for. All that glitters is not necessarily gold. The Lighthouse project excites some but I live in the village of Hempstead and I am trying to understand how this project is going to lower my taxes. Isn't this a Pilot project? What taxes from this project would benefit the residents of Hempstead? Right now our village taxes are among the highest on LI and we cannot even get $350,000 for the sale of our homes. Yet the village is agreeing with this project and has our homes valued as over $500,000. Would the surrounding neighborhoods pick up the tab for increase utilities, education, etc, etc for all the additional residents?
Could our roads handle the additional traffic? Exactly what's in this for us?
